Most of the US has finally settled into spring, which means it’s time for many of us to look forward to summer! I am very excited to announce some summer plans.
I have been invited to return to the Assisi Performing Arts Festival for a second summer. This season I will sing in the opera program as well as with a chamber group. Again, this experience will involve spending nearly three weeks in Assisi. I think I’ll be able to tough it out.
A taste of what we did last summer:
Later in the summer I will travel with a cohort of fellow Jesuit educators to Lusaka, Zambia for an Ignatian Identity workshop at Leopards Hill School. This secondary school has a long tradition of education for service, and recently became an apostolate of the Zambia-Malawi province of the Society of Jesus. We met with their head of school last week, and she and I bonded over being “practically female Jesuits”. This week-long trip will be an invaluable experience of sharing faith and best practices, and will surely send me home with lots to write about!
But what to do while I’m away, and for the rest of the summer while I’m learning music, preparing workshops, and working on some longer creative projects? I want to be sure we keep the conversation flowing around here. That’s where I hope you’ll join me!
Tell me about your favorite church song. I’m looking for guest posts of 400-800 words about any piece of music that moves you spiritually. It could be the text, the tune or an experience of this song that makes it special. There are very few rules, just tell me the story of a song in your life.
This series will be titled “How Can I Keep from Singing?” and will run Tuesdays beginning in June. If you’re interested, email me or message me through my contact page and I’ll send you more details.
I’m counting on you to keep things exciting around here over these summer. Tell me your story!
A facebook friend of mine and former colleague on the reservation school where I taught, James Mangold, is in Lukasa, where he’s helping to run a science program at a (non-Catholic) mission school.
What a fun video! 🙂 And so nice to hear you sing at last…
Thanks!
