Teaching

Margaret’s most recent course development was the creation of a six-unit online course
on Liturgy in Catholic Schools for the University of Notre Dame McGrath Institute for
Church Life. This STEP continuing education course will be piloted in 2025.

As a founding member of the 7 th and 8 th grade theology faculty at Boston College High
School, Margaret helped to develop and refine their Church History curriculum. She
wrote an internally-used textbook and created learning activities including simulations,
hands-on projects, scaffolded writing assignments, and opportunities for creative
problem solving. She also developed the Manresa Program, a spirituality-themed
experiential learning program for the 7 th and 8 th grade which exposed students to
sacraments, Jesuit history, Ignatian spirituality, prayer practices and reflective service.

Margaret is that rare liturgical musician who is a theologian, a pastoral minister, and a performer alike. During the days she spent at Notre Dame, she was able to lead our group of liturgical musicians in a reflection on their own art form as a spiritual offering to God. Her experience of working in a variety of liturgical settings (ranging from an all male high school to cantoring at various parishes in Massachusetts) makes her the most persuasive of liturgical educators.
