O Sapientia

17 Dec O Sapientia
O Sapientia, quae ex ore Altissimi prodiisti,
attingens a fine usque ad finem,
fortiter suaviterque disponens omnia:
veni ad docendum nos viam prudentiae.

O Wisdom, you come forth from the mouth of the Most High. You fill the universe and hold all things together in a strong yet gentle manner. O Come to teach us the way of truth.

I want so desperately to be wise. After a lifetime of always doing or saying the wrong thing, I pray for wisdom so that someday I might stop doing and saying those things. I want the prudence that seems to elude me most days.

And it’s not just so that I can feel better about myself. Wisdom and prudence allow me to be good to other people, for when I stop blathering I can listen to and be present with another. I can see people when I empty myself, and isn’t that all most people want? To be seen?
