Seven quick takes, Volume 5

It’s that time of year when I start to think about the Hartford Half-Marathon. I have been running this one every October since 2006, and every year I decide it would be a shame to skip it. It’s a nice run that begins and ends in a park my mother took me to many times as a kid, and she drives me to the race and enjoys the post-race food with me. I claim the Hartford Marathon Foundation provides the best post race food EVER.

This is why I got drenched this morning. I wanted to do my first official training run today so I would be free for the weekend. The first “long run” on the schedule is only six miles, which seemed less daunting before I got drenched by a rainstorm between miles one and two. I lived to tell the tale.

As training wears on expect more posts about running. For a long time all of my posts about running were also about falling, for no reason more profound than that I fell down a lot. Come to think of it, I haven’t fallen much in the last year or so (except for falling ill and falling in love! *rimshot*) . Most people would be happy with such a development, but it just makes me feel like I’m not taking enough chances.

While this is no doubt an unpopular opinion, I’ll risk saying that I am ready for the Olympics to be over. Since my boyfriend is a newshound, he doesn’t want to miss a minute of coverage. I, on the other hand, have found myself in a position I never thought I’d be: dying to watch one of the stupid movies we get from the library.

The farmer’s market in my BF’s town is off the charts. I go to a market regularly in Boston, but since we have a. less money and b. less space ours is pretty puny. I almost lost my mind yesterday contemplating feta pesto, artisan olive oil, and small-batch jams. In the end, I went with vegetables and eggs.

I have been working without my usual hardward this week for my posts. This leaves me more convinced than ever that tablets and smartphones are horrid at creating content. I can’t wait to go back to my clunky wifi laptop. Try not to feel too sorry for me.

We’re suposed to get nasty rain tomorrow, and all I have planned is a trip to BJs. Any suggestions for fun stuff that won’t break the bank or get us wet? Hope it’s sunny all weekend werever you are. Thanks for reading!

  1. There’s a used bookstore right by BJ’s. You can find odd things in there, if you poke, and it’s air conditioned. 🙂
