On being outspoken

November 16, 2013 · Filed Under: faith · Tagged With: history, Jesuits

On this date in 1989, six Jesuits and two companions were killed for the Jesuits’ outspokenness about injustice in Salvadoran society.

May this day be a challenge to all of us who believe we are outspoken, to all of us who believe we hunger and thirst for justice. May it needle at us, forcing us to ask how far we would go in our pursuit of the Reign of God. May it force us to admit our gratefulness that we are not asked to go farther than we are.

May we honor those who were killed for their convictions by deepening our own.
