Changing my tag line

I had to change my email tag line today to reflect that after four years I’m no longer on the leadership of my beloved Boston Opera Collaborative. I wrote more about moving on a few weeks ago, about how it can be hard to let go and how much I trust the people who are still leading the group to lead it well.

A year or so ago we got talking “mission” over beers, and I admitted that I had always thought of my work with BOC as a ministry. My eyes were clouded by a few Berkshire Steel Rails and couldn’t quite tell if my friends were amused, horrified, astonished, or what. I worked with other singers in a truly collaborative environment to create opportunities for singers and to create beautiful art. Frankly, I witnessed more generosity, altruism and self-sacrifice with them than I have in many so-called “ministerial” environments.

My magnum opus on BOC has already been written. Re-reading it I can’t think of much more to write, since it’s no longer my job to say: Buy your tickets now for our upcoming show!
